Applies specialized knowledge of engineering principles and practices across various areas and projects in the design, development, analysis and release of products and subsystems through the product life cycle. Creates design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service. Verifies design using analysis and or functional testing, interprets results, drives decisions and assesses risk. Works with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional disciplines to resolve product issues. Evaluates customer needs and aligns requirements with identified customer expectations.
Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects with minimal supervision.
Leads small projects or portions of large projects.
Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.
Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.
Influences at department or program management level.
Provides input on program-related decisions.
Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.
Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.
Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.
Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.
Product Integration, Verification & Validation - Understands and applies processes. tools/ skills involved in verifying and validating a solution to a problem, which is embodied in the statement of the requirements, has been developed. Testing is a multi-stage process that consists of activities for validating the product, from the most primitive elements up to the fully integrated system. The verification / validation includes activities such as component testing, integration testing, system testing, performance testing, acceptance testing, and installation testing.
Systems Definition And Design - Understands and able to apply the basics of the system design process including requirements allocation and architecture, capability determination through system modeling and testing including Integrated Design Failure Mode And Effects Analysis (iDFMEA).Capable of assignment of functional requirements from system to subsystem, subsystem to component and management of interfaces. Methods and tools include boundary diagrams, function and interface analysis, critical parameter flow, Pugh Concept Selection and Inventive Problem Solving, Design Structure Matrix, iDFMEA and FTA.
Manage Execution - Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of managing execution. Coordinates performance across regions, teams, and departments on complex projects and work flows. Applies a broad range of planning and monitoring tools. Defines planning and review practices that result in few missed milestones and minimal surprises. Effectively delegates to ensure completion of complex projects and work. Monitors progress of others and redirects efforts when goals change or are not met. Measures effectiveness of execution through defined metrics and disciplined monitoring.
Effective Meetings - Has user proficiency and has significant experience in effective meetings. Trains and/or mentors this skill.
Schedule Management - Identification and tracking work tasks, dependencies, and timing for a project. User proficiency plus, significant experience in schedule management, including ability to train and/or mentor this skill. Has dealt with more complex schedules integrating multiple sub-projects, is able to coach a should mapping exercise, and/or has an advanced level of proficiency with schedule management tools.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
PhD, Masters of Science, Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in engineering required.
Intermediate level of relevant work experience required, such as responsibility for several components of a project or a complex component of a project.
Lead the problem-solving to address the product issues from the field and/or customers’ plant. The expectation of this job is to continuously improve the external/internal customers’ satisfactory by timely reaction and quality improvement, and to reduce the cost of warranty issues
Assists in establishing and verifying the proper analysis process to detect fuel systems failure modes, leading to customer’s truck/engine symptoms
Participates the onsite investigation of fuel system issues in the field and/or customers’ plant
Conducts short term solutions for the product issues, evaluating customer needs and aligns requirements with identified customer expectations
Confirms failure mechanisms
Verifies solutions using analysis and or functional testing, interprets results, drives decisions and assesses risk
Works with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional disciplines for change implementation
